For the better part of a year, city officials and developers at RDRXR have been meeting with local residents to determine what the community sought from the downtown redevelopment of the business district.
In August, the developers took the community’s input and generated a Recommended Action Plan (RAP) that factored in the most popular suggestions for the renovated business district. With the RAP in place, they introduced their first draft of a Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS), which will investigate several factors related to the redevelopment.
According to New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, the DGEIS is “a comprehensive look at the effect of our ambitious development imitative on everything from traffic patterns to economic activity, to student enrollment, to job creation, to utility demands.”
Although this is another important step moving forward with the downtown redevelopment, Bramson cautioned that this is simply the first draft, and there is still plenty of work to be done before the City Council offers their approval in a vote.
The DGEIS can be found online; there will be a formal hearing at City Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
“We deemed (the DGEIS) sufficiently complete for the purpose of receiving feedback from the community and from other public agencies. An updated ‘final’ version of the document, an FGEIS, that includes responses to any comments received is scheduled to be presented later this year.”
