NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Michael T. McElroy, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on Thursday, April 14. He was 76.
McElroy, was born on Aug. 9, 1939 in County Roscommon, Ireland, to Michael and Kathleen (Durkin) McElroy.
He was a retired New Rochelle firefighter who served the city for more than 36 years. He was an Army veteran who was a member of American Legion Post 8, the Irish Benevolent Society and the New Rochelle Elks Club.
His wife, Annie Forde McElroy, died in 2008.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (James) Mallon and his son, Michael P. (Cheri) McElroy; and his three grandsons.
Visiting is Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place, in New Rochelle.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Name Church. Interment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery.
