Police Officer Helps Deliver New Rochelle Baby In Taxi

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- A New Rochelle baby came into the world in the back seat of a taxi with the help of a an Eastchester police officer on Monday, April 18, according to Westchester News 12.

When Officer Nick Louros responded to the corner of New Rochelle and California roads, expecting to find an accident, instead, he found Nancy Riley of New Rochelle in labor in the backseat of a taxi. Louros, who is also the chief of operations for the Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corps, got right to work delivering the baby, his first, said Westchester News 12.

Shortly there after Eachester EMS arrived on scene to further treat and transport the patients, said Eastchester EMS on Facebook.

After the mother and baby girl were admitted into a local hospital and given adequate time to rest, Louros visited the happy family to see how they were doing. For the next 30 minutes, he and the family discussed the events that had transpired earlier that morning and how fortunate they were that everything went smoothly, the Facebook post said.

First-time-mom Riley, who named the little girl Rowan, said she was grateful for the help, added Westchester News 12.
