The hospital network has asked Judge Robert Drain to OK a sale to the Bronx-based Montefiore Medical Center, instead of requiring an auction, in an effort to expedite the sale and minimize its monthly losses of about $1.5 million, the story said.

Montefiore proposes to buy Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle, Mount Vernon Hospital and related entities for $58.75 million plus furniture and equipment, the story said.

On July 24, the Sound Shore network gave its approximately 2,000 employees layoff notices and filed paperwork with the state Department of Labor saying it could eliminate 1,993 jobs between Oct. 23 and Nov. 5, The Journal News reported.
