With RDRXR – a combination of Renaissance Downtowns (RD) and RXR Realty – chosen, the city will now work with them to develop a “consensus-driven, mixed-use, transit-oriented proposal” that will re-imagine various parts of New Rochelle.

Officials with RDRXR gave an energized and detailed presentation outlining their vision to council members on Tuesday that included making the train station a “door to the community, serving as a bridge to the past as well as the future.”

RDRXR representatives envisioned placing an increased emphasis on the arts and New Rochelle’s rich culture with a new library, cultural arts center, garden atrium and outdoor amphitheater around Ruby Dee Park.

Donald Monti, chief executive officer of Renaissance Downtowns, has vowed to work alongside and collaboratively with homeowners and business owners as they begin the process of redevelopment.

“In addition to seeking input from the communities about their ideas and what they’d like, we want to get input from property owners and the business community,” he said. “We encourage everyone to become involved in an open and transparent process, and through that, you will start to see the shaping of a plan.”

By undertaking this redevelopment, New Rochelle could see up to 12,000 construction jobs and approximately 5,000 permanent full-time jobs in the community.

New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson warned that this is only the beginning, and there is a long, difficult road ahead before the vision becomes a reality.

"This sweeping and visionary proposal exemplifies the principles of smart, transit-oriented growth, addresses community goals that have been pursued for a generation, and would deliver huge benefits to our economy and quality of life,” he said in a statement.

“While there are many steps ahead, including difficult challenges and questions, I have never been more excited or optimistic about our prospects and I am looking forward to the inclusive public input that will shape every aspect of the project.”

Development Commissioner Luiz Aragon, who was integral in searching for the perfect master developer added that with RDRXR on board, they can hit the ground running.

“This proposal is an amalgam of transformational ideas, structures and actions embodying the socio-economic mosaic of our city. New Rochelle’s time is here, our future is now.
