Since being diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer in 2011 a year after she was married to fellow officer John Hansen, Mele-Hansen has fought off the disease and sought treatment at some of the finest medical institutions throughout the country.

The community was galvanized by Hansen’s fight, hosting a series of fundraisers that brought in thousands of dollars to help the family offset the costs of treatment for the rare form of cancer.

There will be calling hours for Mele-Hansen from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the Lloyd Maxcy Funeral Home, 16 Shea Place. Mass has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church on Centre Avenue. A cremation will follow at Ferncliff Cemetary.
