In their latest “America’s 50 Best Cities to Live” list, the popular organization ranked New Rochelle at number 37, nestled between Franklin, Tenn. at 36 and Cape Coral, Fla.

New Rochelle was the only city in New York to make the list.

To determine which cities made the list, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed data of the 550 U.S. cities with populations greater than 65,000 or more as measured by the Census Bureau. The rankings are based on a range of variables that includes crime rates, restaurants, attractions, educational opportunities, affordable housing and employment growth.

Broomfield, Colo., Meridian, Idaho and Richardson, Texas were named the three best cities to live in.

24/7 Wall St. cited New Rochelle’s proximity to Manhattan, low crime rate and diverse economy as reasons it is an attractive destination.

“While New Rochelle is home to some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country, the city also has pockets of low-income households and considerable needs for affordable housing,” they wrote.

When told about the lofty ranking in 24/7 Wall St.’s list, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson expressed no surprise, though he has an eye on even bigger things.

“Fortunately, we don’t need a ranking like this to tell us that New Rochelle is a great community, but it’s still nice to receive some positive outside validation,” he said. “I expect that, as our development plan unfolds, New Rochelle will move even higher on the list.”
