NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- New Rochelle is serving as the backdrop for a film that is about a lot more than ticket sales.

"Little Miss Perfect" is a feature-length drama by Face Your Beast, which follows a 14-year-old girl named Belle who joins an online group that promotes eating disorders and begins secretly starving herself.

The film’s social mission is to empower young girls in the transitional points of their lives and raise awareness of eating disorders.

Writer and director Marlee Roberts believes that, by de-stigmatizing anorexia, those hiding it will be encouraged to speak out and seek recovery.

The film takes place in a upper-middle class suburban town. Local residents will recognize the College of New Rochelle being used as the campus of the prestigious preparatory high school for girls that Belle attends.

Roberts told The Daily Voice in an email, "One of our producers had mentioned the College of New Rochelle as a possibility and after taking a tour of the school, we knew it was a perfect fit. (...) we were able to use various buildings and parts of the facility that an actual high school wouldn't have."

"Our climactic grand ballroom scene, for instance, takes place in... well, a grand ballroom. We were so very fortunate that the college had an absolutely beautiful space," she said.

While none of the lead actors are from the area, the production team enlisted local talent for smaller roles and extras.

"We did, however, want to engage the community and offer participation in the film so we had open submissions for background talent and featured roles from the area. We had a lot of local talent participate," Roberts said.

Executive producers of the film are Emmy-award winner Nancy Malone and New York University  professor and award-winning producer Karl Bardosh.

The film will debut in festivals starting in 2014.
