"Beyond Measure," shines a light on schools that are moving from "test-driven education" and rather focus on critical thinking, communication, exploration, experimentation, collaboration, and creativity," said a release.

"Both parents and teachers want our children to be engaged, curious learners from kindergarten through Senior year,” said Jayne Peister, president of the high school PTSA, which is sponsoring the screening of the film.

“It is vital to the long term success of our students for us to understand the exciting and innovative possibilities by attending and being active participants in this film screening and discussion,” she added.

A panel discussion with Brian Osborne, superintendent of schools; Magda Parvey, chief academic officer; Reginald Richardson, principal of New Rochelle High School; and Suyen Taylor, president, PTA Council of New Rochelle, will follow the showing of the movie.

“As a parent in the New Rochelle School family, I have witnessed firsthand the stress that many of our families and children experience as they try to navigate tests, standards, after-school activities and homework,” said Taylor.

“I am excited to see what conversations develop from this film presentation and how we as a district will continue to support our children in light of these challenges while seeking innovative solutions to the stressors of modern day learning.”

The documentary features interviews with experts in education, child development and others.

All are welcome to the viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Whitney Young Auditorium, New Rochelle High School, 265 Clove Road, New Rochelle.

The film will be shown with Spanish subtitles.
