The advisory, issued at 1 p.m., is in effect until 10 p.m. Friday.

A total of between 1 to 3 inches of accumulation is forecast across points around or south of I-287, the National Weather Service said.

Light snow will develop Friday between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and continue through the evening commute throughout the Hudson Valley, with higher accumulation amounts farther south and east.

Given the cold temperatures, roadways will become snow covered and slippery.

Motorists are urged to use extra caution if traveling Friday evening.

The snow will gradually taper off from west to east after 7 p.m., ending around midnight across the east end of Long Island.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high in the mid-30s.
