The EFD is a professional and solid department. This year alone they knocked down three fires in Tuckahoe. One at Bubblemania, one at the red brick building at Main St. and Fairview Ave. and one on Lake Ave. These fires could have been a disaster for our village being as densely populated as we are. This on top of handling all of the EMS calls in town. If you know of corruption then say it. Be Specific. Don't speak in riddles or secret code. To criticize a great department with unsubstantiated allegations is bogus to say the least. Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY View Comment
Though I would never vote for Romney/Ryan I am glad that Congressman Ryan is Mr. Romney's choice. I say this because the citizenry has a clear and transparent choice in November. A choice that will be directed and guided by contrasting ideas and the direction our nation should take. It should be very interesting. Probably as important an election in my life time. 260 nurses aides. 125 clerks. So what? As long as Mr. Israel and his greedy executives keep receiving their grossly inflated compensation packages and their generous raises then that is the important thing. Obviously it is to them. Jeff Meyer St.Pete/Tuckahoe,NY View Comment
What angers me is why doesn't Mr. Israel lead by example? Did he take a salary cut? Did his upper management cronies take a salary cut? It was reported that they received pay raises this year. If that is true how can you look at yourself in the mirror? Think of the domino effect of misery that these cuts are causing. The hundreds of local families being devastated. How can he PROFIT when others are being terminated from gainful employment. No different then Con Ed CEO Mr. Kevin Burke. Though Con Ed reaps a billion dollars in profit in 2011 he finds it necessary to LOCKOUT 8,500 workers. For what? When is it ever going to be enough of a profit? These two CEO's are two peas in a pod and they both make me sick. Jeff Meyer St.Pete/Tuckahoe,NY View Comment
Local 1-2 has every right to be skeptical. This unfair and cruel LOCKOUT of 8,500 workers deserves skepticism. Con Ed employee already contribute substantially to their health care and their pension plan is hardly a "cadillac" plan as it is being portrayed. Stay strong Local 1-2. Totally disagree with you TRUTH. Public utilities is not something to treat casually. Especially in July. It effects the public health and safety. What the heck would motivate Con Ed executives to LOCKOUT 8,000 essential and skilled employees. Yes, we have high utility rates but we also have high property values. Do you really expect to pay the same utility costs in the New York area as oppossed to say Santa Fe, NM. These workers should be called back ASAP and both parties should go back to the negotiating table. That is unless the motivation is to union bust Local 1-2. Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY View Comment
Read the article. IT IS NOT A STRIKE, IT IS A LOCKOUT. It's nice that you support Con Ed management and the $11,000,000 compensation package that their CEO receives. It would make my day if you went to a Con Ed union rally today and tolds them so in person Mr/Mrs jprog. Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY View Comment
This is not a strike. It is a management LOCKOUT on the part of a greedy and selfish monopoly. I support Local 1-2. The Con Ed worker is entitled to unemployment benefits. I hope we get out from these selfish management thumbs. Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY View Comment
Another example of a profitable corporation attempting to break a union. No different then profitable Verizon attempting to bust the CWA. Stay strong Local 1-2. These 8,000 unionized workers allow the economic bread basket of our world, known as the NYC region to function. The very fact that Con Ed management called a LOCKOUT clearly tips their hand and tells of their intention to break this union. A DISGRACE!!!!! Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY View Comment
Congress enacted the Affordable Care Act. President Obama signed it into law. The SCOTUS affirmed it. That is democracy. Now our nation needs to go further and enact a universal, single payer health care system so that all who live in the USA are granted access to health care. Every industrialized western nation and Israel grants such coverage to its citizens. The access to health care should be a RIGHT just as access to public education is. The real crime is that approximately 50 million people in our nation do not have health coverage. Individuals and families should not enter into financial ruin due to an illness. My dog has basically become my fifth child. We love him. However, I could never bring him into a work setting. As a beagle he gets too excited a his bark is so..... loud. That's OK. Part of being a family is accepting one another just as we are. LOL. Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY View Comment
I am very pleased that approximately 400 jobs will be created from this project. However, there is no mention of a traffic control plan in this article for the Garth Rd./ Harney Rd./ Scarsdale Ave. vicinities. With a approximately 40 million dollar budget, the hiring of Eastchester Police Officers to assist in the facilitation of traffic control is certainly not too much to ask. I give the Tuckahoe Police Department much credit. They are innovative and proactive. The tremendous generosity of the Pope Foundation and the support of village government is certainly a major factor in achieving these goals. The TPD is a model police department that other local police departments can learn from. Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY View Comment
A cost cap would be far more meaningful to school districts than a tax cap. But that would require some major changes, such as repealing the Triborough Amendment, and Albany lacks the political courage to make such bold moves." The Triborough Amendment is in place so extreme minded elected officials do not unfairly dismantle years of fairly negotiated contracts just because it displeases them. This is the perfect case in point. Mr. Collins is a labor lawyer who has a obvious agenda against organized labor and the teachers union. If it was not for the TBA he would most likely shred every bargaining right that the public employees of TUFSD have garnered over the years. Thankfully, because of the TBA, extremist are not allowed to do such. It certainly doesn't surprise me that he is a labor lawyer catering to the rights of management. Mr. Kennedy's attorney is not doing his client any favors by acting in such an arrogant and disrespectful manner. When he states to the effect that no one deserves to be hauled in through this process I can only shake my head in disgust. Is Mr. Kennedy above the law? Is he so special that rules do not apply to him? Such indignation!! LOL. For his attorney to state that the nurses are trying to "line their pockets" is disgraceful. In the future, if the Kennedy's have another child, they should chose to have their child at home. This way the will not have to follow any rules but their own. Kudos the the nurses. Professionalism at its best. Jeff Meyer Tuckahoe, NY View Comment
