If the deer hunters all shoot straight down, why does the DEEPs guide on Managing Urban Deer show all the hunters shooting at 40-90 angles? Do even professional marksmen ever miss? What happens when the hunter only wounds the animal? And you know that happens often enough. What happens when the crazed animal with an arrow sticking out it runs through the school playground? Is the hunter tracking it down there? Or by the nursery school or the park? And you know that happens, too. Hunting with razor tipped arrows in a child-intense town like New Canaan is sick. Unless of course, you have an agenda for hunting - like you are one???????????? View Comment
I find the need to kill deer somewhat odd, though less odd considering the author is a hunter. If lyme were truly the concern, I guess we'll have to kill all of the birds, too! Those infernal birds -lyme and the avian flu! Let's get out our bows and arrows and even shotguns, too and kill them all. Then, we won't even have to worry about any contributions to the Audubon Society. I find it offensive that the author would use his position with the Audubon Society as a front for hunting. Where is that shotgun? Might as well get the Bugs Bunny when I shoot Bambi and Woodstock and all of the other animal cartoon characters that carry lyme. The lyme tick loves them all.
As for facts? or even recent science? Maybe, the author should go to the library. His science is a bit outdated. The facts pulled come from the days when the cell phone weighed 5 pounds.
