WAPPINGERS FALLS -- Ursuline could not solve Roy C. Ketcham last year, losing to the Indians three times, including in the Section 1 Class AA semifinals. That was then. The teams met yesterday for the first time since the 2010 semifinal and it was Ursuline which had the final say. The fourth-seeded Koalas scored three runs in the first innings and cruised to an 8-1 win over the top seed in a Section 1 Class AA semifinal.
Ursuline will play second-seeded John Jay-East Fishkill in the final tomorrow at 3 p.m. at North Rockland High School in Rockland County. Ursuline last played in the title game in 2009, losing to Krstyn Benson, who pitches for the University of Albany, and North Rockland.
Jamie Carfora paced a 14-hit barrage with four hits. She also drove in three runs and scored twice. Kristie Vitulli collected two hits and drove in two runs and the tandem of Brittany Mitchell and Mary McCabe each had two hits and a RBI. Taylor Pirone allowed three hits, struck out seven and threw only 98 pitches.
