Stepinac, working on a 13-game unbeaten streak in regular season games, has averaged 39.5 points in its first two games. The Crusaders blew out Newburgh Free Academy, 31-0, and had an easy 48-6 win over rival Iona Prep last weekend.

Senior quarterback Tyquell Fields has thrown for 443 yards already this season, with three touchdowns. His average of 221.5 yards per game is sixth in the state. Running back Antonio Giannico has rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns for Stepinac, while Kobe Miranda has 136 yards and two TDs.

Stepinac routed Holy Cross last year, 49-7. The Crusaders climbed to the top spot in the MaxPreps’ rankings on the strength of its two wins. New Rochelle (No. 14) is the only other Westchester County team in the state’s top 20.

The Huguenots (3-0) face a key game on Friday. They travel to meet Arlington (2-1) in Lagrangeville. Arlington ended New Rochelle’s season last year, 23-20, in the Section 1 semifinals.

New Rochelle has already registered key wins this season over John Jay -- which beat Arlington -- and Mamaroneck. New Rochelle smacked Clarkstown North, 33-0, last week. New Rochelle’s defensive focus will be on slowing up Rob Tannenbaum, who has rushed for 301 yards and four touchdowns in three games this season.
