HARRISON, N.Y. – The Total Kaos 14-and-under travel softball team had so much fun winning a qualifying tournament for Nationals that it finished second in another qualifier.

The team, as well as the 16- and 18-and-under Kaos softball teams, will open play in the 2012 PONY Fastpitch Softball National Championships on Saturday in Cary, N.C. The tournament runs through Aug. 3.

The 14-and-under team earned its berth winning the Long Island Riptide Beach Blast and making it to the finals of the Lightning Flash in Connecticut. The players are Christine DiCarlo, Emily DiSilvestro, Dominique Loguidice, Nery Mendez and Sydney Woolf, all of Harrison; Rye Neck sophomore Diana King; Mikayla DiNapoli and Kirsten Farrell of Eastchester; Kim Chiapparelli from Mamaroneck; New Rochelle’s Alexis Galluzzo; Stacy Mendez of Pelham; Cornwall’s Madison Crowley; and Torrie Rivera of The Preston School.

The girls carry a 26-6-1 record into Nationals and are coached by Harrison varsity softball coach Dean Marino, his assistant Nat Acuti, and two Kaos graduates, Harrison’s Taryn Marino and Mount Vernon’s Janelle Parker.

“The girls have gotten much stronger as the season progressed,” Dean Marino said. “This is very exciting for the girls, because it is a great experience going far beyond our area to be a part of the top level of play from Maine to Florida.”
