Top Westchester Hoops Player Commits to Oklahoma

Mount Vernon’s Isaiah Cousins verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Oklahoma, according to OU Insider. Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino confirmed the decision Wednesday on Twitter.

Cousins had an official visit to the university Monday and made his decision while he was in Norman, Okla.

UConn, Xavier, Dayton and Virginia Tech were the other schools recruiting Cousins. He did not visit any of those colleges; Oklahoma was his only official visit.

The 6'4" senior guard earned “Mr. Basketball” honors from Section 1 as he led Mount Vernon to a 23-3 record, a record seventh straight Section 1 Championship and consecutive Class AA State Championships.

Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger and assistant coach Lew Hill watched Cousins play at the Westchester County Center in the Class AA sectional championship game in March. They also attended Mount Vernon’s practice last week as the Knights prepared for the Federation championship game.

Cousins still will have plenty of ties to Mount Vernon after he settles down in Norman. Hill is a Mount Vernon native and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1983. Cousins also will face former teammate Jabarie Hinds, who will be a sophomore at West Virginia University next year while Cousins will be a freshman, on the court in Big 12 Conference games.

Cousins is scheduled to return home Wednesday afternoon.
