MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Chris Ramondelli was in a giving mood Wednesday in New Rochelle’s ice hockey game against Eastchester/Tuckahoe/Bronxville.
The senior forward collected three assists on the Huguenots' first three goals before adding an insurance score in a 5-2 victory over the Eagles in a Section 1 Division I game at the Ice Hutch.
Joey Ramondelli had four assists, and Mark Umbro and Brett Barry had two goals each as New Rochelle won its second straight game, improving to 5-2-2. Both of Umbro’s scores were power-play goals.
Chris Ramondelli leads New Rochelle in scoring with 13 goals and 14 assists.
“Joey and I work well in practice, and we are on the same side so we are always looking to get each other shots as well as find the open man for scoring chances,” Chris said.
He scored his 13th goal of the season in a three-goal third period. After he and his brother assisted on Umbro’s second goal, at 2:16 into the third period, Chris Ramondelli doubled the lead. He received a pass from his brother, scored between the face-off circles and snapped a wristshot in at the 4:45 mark.
“We were looking for Mark because he is a big guy with a good shot and when he has the opportunity, he will finish it in front of the net,” Chris Ramondelli said. “On my goal, it was at the end of a shift, and I was just trying to get a good shot on goal. It came off my stick really well, and I was fortunate to hit the back of the net.”
It was the second consecutive game in which New Rochelle rallied from an early 2-0 deficit. The Huguneots defeated Christian Brothers Academy of Albany on Sunday, 4-2.
“I think we overlooked this team, a little, at the beginning, and they came out strong. But we knew we could come back because we had come back from 2-0 before,” Chris Ramondelli said.
