Leonard Korir, a 2012 graduate, and Maya Rehberg starred for the cross country/track and field programs during their time in New Rochelle.

They are among the 11,000-plus athletes from 206 countries in Rio and are the first Olympians in school history, according to a release.

Korir and Rehberg were set to compete on day two of the track and field competition at Estádio Olímpico João Havelange (Olympic Stadium) Saturday, Aug. 13.

Korir represents the United States in the 10,000-meter run. He finished third at the U.S. Olympic Trials last month, earning a spot on the team. The American 10K trio consists of Korir, former Oregon standout Galen Rupp and Oklahoma State alum Shadrack Kipchirchir.

Korir and Kipchirchir represent the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program. Korir enlisted in the Army in September, where he is a specialist and motor transport operator.

The men's 10,000-meter final is set for about 8:25 p.m. Saturday.

Rehberg will represent Germany in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Rehberg was the silver medalist at the Deutsche Meisterschaften (German Championships) at the Auestadion in Kassel, Germany in June with a time of 9:46.58.

Her personal best time of 9:39.18 came two weeks earlier at Memorial Josefa Odlozila in Prague, Czech Republic, earning her an Olympic standard time in the event. She fulfilled the national qualification standards in the event and was announced as a German national team member in July.

The first round of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase is at about 9:05 p.m. Saturday. The final round at about 10:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15.
