New York Giants Great Frank Gifford Had CTE, Family Says

The family of New York Giant icon Frank Gifford says the NFL Hall of Famer had Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, according to Pro Football Talk.

Gifford, a Greenwich resident, died from natural causes at the age of 84 earlier this year. But a team of pathologists confirmed he was also suffering from the head trauma often associated with football and other high contact sports, Pro Football Talk reported. 

Gifford played years before the NFL acknowledged the potential long-term effects from repeated concussions and other violent blows to the head, but the diagnosis makes his estate eligible for compensation from the league, Pro Football Talk said.
