NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.-- Monroe College in New Rochelle began practice Monday for all fall sports.
"We are beyond excited," Athletic Director Bert Shillingford said in a statement. "We're bringing in some amazing athletes from all over the country – the world, in fact – along with the many local student-athletes that will compete for Monroe. We are looking forward to a great year."
The fall sports lineup for Monroe College includes football, men's and women's soccer, cross country and women's volleyball.
The women's volleyball team hopes a mix of new talent and seasoned veterans will help them return to the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament for the second consecutive season.
In men's soccer, coach Marcus Dibernardo will be out to improve on last year's regular season, which ended in a disappointing last-minute loss in the district final. The team opens its regular season Aug. 30 in North Carolina.
The football hopes to improve upon last year's 2-6 record in head coach Terry Karg's second season at the helm.
The cross country team will host its first ever race, the Mustang Stampede, which will take place Aug. 30 in Bronx Ferry Point Park.
