New Rochelle Varsity Cheerleaders Advance To State Competition

NORTH ROCKLAND, N.Y. -- The North Rockland Red Raiders brought home their division title at the Section 1 cheerleading championships on Saturday, lohud.com reports, in a fitting tribute to longtime coach Lauren Gould, who died unexpectedly this past December.

The North Rockland varsity cheerleaders won their Section 1 title and qualified for the state championships on Saturday. Squads from Putnam Valley and New Rochelle also advanced during the competition in White Plains.

Carmel failed to defend that title, for the large school, large team division, at the competition at White Plains High School, coming away with second place, according to Lohud.com.

New Rochelle cheerleaders also took the title for their division -- large school, small team, lohud.com reported. Putnam Valley also bested Pearl River, in the small school, large team division.
