New Rochelle Sports Spotlights Outstanding Athletes

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle School District's athletes had a great year, with many receiving Senior-Athlete Awards.

Senior-Athlete Awards went to the following students: 

  • Outstanding Athlete – Fall season: Maeve McKinney, Luis Lua, and Jonathan Forrest
  • Outstanding Athlete – Winter season: Jonathan Yudell, Nijera Manuel, Kenneth McLean, and David Stewart
  • Outstanding Athlete – Spring season: Josiah Gray, Sochima Bishop and Ellie St. John
  • Scholar-Athlete – Fall season: Maria Oceguera and Cristina Nosonowitz
  • Scholar-Athlete – Winter season: Jake Reifer and Taylor Jones
  • Scholar-Athlete – Spring season: David Herskowitz and Mack Portnoy
  • Athletic Director’s Leadership Award – Heather Manley, Andrew Nolan, Quincy Mack, and Essence Slater
  • Coaches Award – Maria Jaramillo, Carmine Giordano, and Elena Gaffney
  • Sportsmanship Award – Alexis Cisneros, Carina Oliveira, Donna Rogers, and Sean Avery
  • Achievement Award: Julian Merchant, in recognition for his accomplishments in fencing. 

Also named Huguenot Citizen of the Year was Campus Alternative High School Program Administrator Joel Fridovich. At the June Team Athletic Awards Dinner, members of 16 spring teams were recognized for their achievements.  Varsity baseball:
