New Rochelle will try to win the Class AAA Championships on Sunday, Feb. 9. New Rochelle has won the indoor triple crown for three straight years. New Rochelle compiled 135.5 points, easily outrunning runner-up Bronxville (52.75). Last weekend, New Rochelle won the team title at the New Balance Games.
Sensational sophomore Symone Darius led the way for New Rochelle, winning the 55, 300 and anchoring the winning 4 x 200 relay. Darius has the naton’s top time in the 300, and New Rochelle also has the nation’s top time in the 4 x 200 relay.
Ashley Wiggins won the 55 hurdles and anchored the winning 4 x 400 relay. The other members of the winning 4 x 400 relay were Victoria Jones-Alleyne, Irene Pierre and Darius Rachei. The 4 x 200 relay consisted of Josina Smallwood, Monae Cooper, Rasheeda Bull and Darius.
While New Rochelle dominated the sprints, coach Andy Capellan’s team also showed terrific depth in picking up points in distance, throwing and jumping events.
Sindy Rivas was third in the 1,500 in a personal best time, and second in the 3,000. Devon Feuer (third, pole vault) Irene Pierre (second, high jump), Alicia Donaldson (second, long jump), Tiana Gillenwater (second, shot put) and Monae Cooper (third, shot put) also picked up key points for New Rochelle.
