New Rochelle was led by senior Symone Darius and senior Ashley Wiggins. Darius won the 300 meters. Wiggins won 55 hurdles. They joined Alicia Donaldson and Victoria Jones-Alleyne on the winning 4 x 200 relay.
Darius has established herself as one of the best sprinters in the nation. She owns the second fastest time in the nation in the 200 and 300 meters, and is ranked 22nd in the nation in the 55-meter dash, according to Dyestat.com. She won the 300 in Saturday’s race in 38.9, nearly a full second ahead of runner-up Amanda Crawford. Darius’ best time in the event this year is 38.01.
Wiggins is similarly having a breakout year. Her winning time of 7.95 in the 55 hurdles is the second best in the nation, and she finished second in the 55 meter dash at the Section 1 Championships on Feb. 10.
Darius led off the winning relay and passed the baton to Wiggins. Jones-Alleyne held the lead and Donaldson brought it home, setting a meet record in the process. New Rochelle was timed in 1:41.61. Rasheeda Bulla and Josina Smallwood also contributed to the relay success by running well in the preliminary heat.
The team website said the Hugueonts won the state championship, but no team scores were posted with the results of the meet.
Donaldson finished eighth in the 55 hurdles, and Nijera Manuel was ninth in the state put.
New Rochelle will run for the final time indoors next week at the New Balance Indoor Nationals.
