The Braves went 3-1 in the national tournament, earning the No. 2 seed and losing in semifinals at Ripken Field in Aberdeen, Md. The Braves had a walk-off win in the first round of the playoffs of the 12-team event.
The Braves finished 20-10-1 overall including competition in the Westchester Baseball Association and tournament play.
Christopher Fulco, 18, coached the team. Justin Wasserberg will take over as the team's head head for fall as Fulco returns to St. Joseph's University. Christopher Fulco Sr will continue to assist with administrative functions and first base coaching.
The Braves are comprised of players from New Rochelle. The group included Iona Prep players Louis Berardi, Tyler Dorsainvil, Tyler Fulco, Anthony Fama, Alex Jeraci and Owen Kelly (JV Players); New Rochelle High players, Stephen Santarpia, Caesar Choflet and Matt Carter (freshman players) and Fordham Prep player Jack Andreana (freshman). In tournament play the team added other New Rochelle players including former Brave, Matt Pagano who plays for Fordham Prep (JV), A.J. Luongo from Stepinac (JV)and Jayson and Johnny Rodopoulos from New Rochelle High School (JV) and Nick Sozio from Iona Prep (freshman).
"The team has good pitching and plays stellar defense and is in every game," Fulco Jr. said. "They all listen and want to win. These boys are always smiling and having fun and it shows when they play the game, they never get down and pick each other up. It was a pleasure coaching this group of boys."
The pitching staff was led by Matt Carter, Tyler Fulco, Anthony Fama, Stephen Santarpia, Owen Kelly, Tyler Dorsainvil and Alex Jeraci.
