Monroe Track and Field Star Captures Gold Medal

NEW ROCHELLE. N.Y. – Monroe track and field star Tautvydas Kieras, also known as “TK,” won the gold medal in the discus throw at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Track and Field Championships Thursday.

Kieras tossed the longest competitive throw of his career at 55.47 meters, or 60 yards, 2 inches. The second place finisher’s throw was 2.27 meters behind Kieras’ distance.

“Strange to say, I think he can actually throw farther,” said Coach Mark Goodman. “He has such tremendous talent, strength, fitness and love for his sport that it's hard to not be wowed by what he does. More than that, he has the heart of a champion, having his best-ever performance in the national finals. It can't be done better than that.”

The freshman returns to his native Lithuania Tuesday.
