His colleague, Shirvon Greene, was named the Assistant Coach of the Year, taking both the regional and national title. The association's Coach and Athlete of the Year awards celebrate those who have excelled in their leadership, sportsmanship, and performance throughout the 2016 indoor track and field season. Votes cast by the hundreds of NJCAA coaches within the association membership determine the honorees.

It is the second time that Hogg and Greene were recognized among coaches in the Atlantic Region, and the first time that Greene was chosen for the national title as well. As further testament to the strength of Monroe College’s Indoor Track and Field Program, three Monroe College students were also recognized for their outstanding performance this season.

Jaymes Dennison, who set a new school record in the 600 meters at Nationals this month, was named the region’s Male Track Athlete of the Year, while Susan Ejore, who won the 1000 meter and mile races at Nationals and was part of the winning distance medley team, was named the region’s Female Track Athlete of the Year. Breaisha Morton, who impressed all at Nationals with her winning 1.71 meter jump, was named the region’s Female Field Athlete of the Year.

“Our Women’s and Men’s teams have had an exceptional season, and it is heartening to see their incredible teamwork and talent throughout the season recognized by our USTFCCCA peers,” said Luis Melendez, Monroe's director of athletics. “I congratulate all our coaches and student-athletes for a truly inspiring season.” Head Coach Lesleigh Hogg has more than 32 years of professional coaching experience, including two with Monroe College. Throughout his career, he has coached nine Olympians representing four different countries. Monroe currently anticipates that five of its track and field athletes will be participating in their country’s Olympic trials this spring.
