NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- To the delight of athletics recruits visiting campus for the day, New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera made a surprise visit to the College of New Rochelle's Athletics open house last Saturday, Feb. 20.
The College had awarded Rivera an honorary degree and, along with his wife Clara, is the patron of the Mariano and Clara Rivera Academic Scholarship at CNR.
In his remarks, Rivera highlighted his friendship with CNR and the close-knit community it offers. The Yankees star relief pitcher, a strong supporter of CNR and the College's athletic program expansion, then posed for pictures with recruits.
