New Rochelles tandem of James Laurent and Justin Douglas asserted themselves at the Glen Cove Wrestling Tournament Wednesday. Laurent won the 145-pound title and Douglas captured the 285-pound championship. It was the first varsity tournament titles for both wrestlers. We are real proud of James, who has come a long way, New Rochelle assistant coach Eddie Ortiz said. Hes a very talented athlete. Hes starting to have things click technically, and he wrestled really well. Were hoping this will build his confidence up for the latter part of the season. James is extremely soft spoken and does not say much, but he works hard in the room and is explosive on the mat. Ortiz said Douglas came to wrestling off a successful football season. Douglas has had the unenviable task of stepping into the 285-pound weight class following former football teammate Malcolm Allen, the 2011 New York State large school 285 wrestling champion. It was awesome to see Justin have success and he was excited about winning the tournament, Ortiz said.
