NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Iona Prep will honor a New York Giants legend this weekend, when they dedicate their football field in the memory of longtime owner – and Iona benefactor – Wellington T. Mara.

Wellington T. Mara, with wife Ann, will have his name put on the football stadium at Iona Prep in New Rochelle on Saturday.

On Saturday before Iona Prep's 1:30 p.m. varsity football game against visiting Cardinal Hayes, the remaining Mara family – including son John, the current president and CEO of the Giants – will join Iona Prep President Thomas Leto, Athletic Director Bernard Mahoney, alumni, faculty and students at the football field for a ceremony naming the stadium after Wellington, who was born in Rochester but raised and lived in Harrison.

A Fordham University graduate, Mara, the NFL Hall of Famer and former Giants co-owner, was a longtime benefactor and Gael supporter, where each of his four sons – and later, nine grandchildren – would attend school. The ceremony is expected to begin at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday at the football field as part of the homecoming weekend.
