NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - A veteran coach from a prestigious Division I school is taking his talents to Westchester to join Iona College men’s basketball coach Tim Cluess’ staff.

Following eight seasons at Baylor University, Tim Maloney is joining the Gaels for the upcoming basketball season as an assistant coach to Cluess.

According to Iona officials, “Maloney's experience and feel for the game assisted (Baylor) in terms of developing strategy, analyzing game film, planning practices and team building.

“Additionally he had the opportunity to assist in academics, game scheduling and recruiting both on campus and on the road. He was a solid ambassador for Baylor basketball as both an inspirational speaker and life coach for the men's program.”

Maloney - who has been coaching Division I college basketball for more than two decades, including stints at UMass and Florida before Baylor - has been on staffs that went to 11 NCAA Tournament and four NIT appearances. He’s been to the Elite Eight twice, the Sweet 16 three time and the Final Four once, in 2000 with the Gators.

A 1982 graduate of Manhattanville College, Maloney competed in basketball, baseball, soccer, and cross country. He earned “Most Dedicated Athlete” for his labors with the cross country program. Maloney earned his master's degree in counseling from Hunter College in 2004
