NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The College of New Rochelle is welcoming Maria Rosa Doria Ribeiro, a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence from Brazil, to campus to teach a class on Global and Transnational Feminisms for the spring semester.

In the fall, she will teach a new course, Introduction to Latin American Studies, and a seminar on Latin American immigration.

While a visiting Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at the College of New Rochelle, Ribeiro will help develop a certificate program in Latin American/Caribbean Studies. She is also looking forward to learning about the lives of Latin American people in this part of the United States. "I want to see the ways new immigrants are integrating into the local communities," she said in a statement.

Ribeiro is based at the University of Sao Paulo and holds a doctorate in history and a master's in education from the University of Campinas. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the emergence of feminism in Brazil in the context of the fight against a dictatorship.

She selected the College of New Rochelle because of its tradition of educating women. The course she is teaching traces the history of the feminist movement.

The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program and Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program bring foreign scholars to lecture and/or conduct postdoctoral research for up to a year at U.S. colleges and universities. About 900 visiting scholars receive Fulbright awards annually.
