College Of New Rochelle's Ellis Named D-iii Top Player

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- College of New Rochelle junior forward Jah-Leah Ellis was recently named the Association of Division III Independents Women's Basketball Player of the Year.

Ellis finished first in the conference for rebounds per game (15.2), second for points per game (20.0), third for assists per game (3.6), fourth for field goal percentage (45.2). 

Ellis was also named AD3I Women's Basketball Player of the Week three times and was the AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month for November.

Ellis was joined by sophomore center Jasmine Brandon as a first-team All-independent, while junior guard Alyssa Pechin and senior guard Holly Cammarota were named All-Independent second team and honorable mention, respectively. 

Brandon ranked first in the conference points per game (22.3) and field goal percentage (52.2), and third in rebounds per game (10.4) while posting three games of 40-plus points.

Pechin receives All-Independent status for the third consecutive season after ranking second in the conference in assists per game (4.0), fourth in steals per game (2.5), fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (32.7).

Cammarota, the lone senior starter and the only player to start every game for the Blue Angels, earned All-Independent status for the first time. On the season, she averaged 6.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals while playing nearly 35 minutes a game.
