Ward Elementary Students Celebrate Wins At Scholastic Contest

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- New Rochelle school officials were congratulating the young students who took first place in a recent scholastic contest.

The team, Ward Checkmates, hails from the William B. Ward Elementary School.

It came out on top in the K-1 and Primary Novice divisions of the National Scholastic Grand Prix Tournament recently held at the school.

The team of Reese Axelroad and Daniel Babyev won the K-1 division.

Paolo Kaprelian earned second place individual overall honors in the Primary Novice division.

Kaprelian was part of the division’s first place team that includes Daniel Raffia Cohen, Nathan L. Greenberg, Grabriel Noah, Kramer-Griffith, and Lucy Equinda.

Konstantinos Koufalis took third place overall in the Reserve division, the school district said.
