State Education Department Recommends Matrix For Teacher Evals

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The New York State Board of Regents is looking to create an evaluation matrix that will grade educators on both student test performance and teacher observations, according to WNYT.com.

The Board of Regents examined a recent proposal by the Board of Education, but it appears reaching an agreement on the policy is proving to be difficult, WNYT.com reported. 

Lawmakers approved the system with the new budget this year, but the New York State United Teachers union has stood strongly opposed, saying that test scores weigh too heavily on evaluating an educator's performance, WNYT said.
