Obamas Announce Post-Presidency Plans, Daughter Decides On College

The First Family has made a big post-presidency decision and the elder of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama's two daughters has decided on her college destination.

Malia Obama will attend Harvard University starting in 2017 after taking a gap year following her graduation this spring from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.

The official announcement came in a statement from the First Lady's office on Sunday. (The announcement is shown above.)

A day earlier, at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, President Obama announced his family would stay in Washington, D.C., for two years after his second term ends through younger daughter Sasha's high school graduation. Sasha Obama, 14, also attends Sidwell Friends.

Both the president and first lady earned law degrees at Harvard. President Obama is a 1983 graduate of Columbia and Michelle Obama a 1985 graduate of Princeton.

The 17-year-old Malia Obama visited the following schools before deciding on Harvard: Cal-Berkeley; Stanford; NYU; the University of Pennsylvania; Barnard; Tufts; Brown; Yale and Wesleyan.

She is interested cinematography and interned with the HBO series "Girls" in New York City last summer and also worked as a production assistant for Halle Berry’s CBS show "Extant."

President Obama will be the first president to stay in the nation's capital after his presidency since Woodrow Wilson nearly 100 years ago.
