The Intel Science Talent Search is a program of Society for Science & the Public, a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to engaging the public in scientific research and education. The national competition involves pre-college students and challenges them to improve everyday life through science.
Florakis was recognized for her research project titled “The Possible Relationships between EphA1 and Alzheimer's Disease."
She joins 299 other semifinalists who each received a $1,000 award from Intel as well an additional $1,000 toward his or her school.
40 participants from this group will advance to the final judging stage in Washington, D.C., where they will display their work and compete for the top three awards of $150,000 each.
