Michael Galland, a resident of Dobbs Ferry, succeeds William Harrell, principal of Davis Elementary School for the last 29 years.  Galland leaves his job as assistant principal of Columbus Elementary.  He began working in the New Rochelle schools in 1998 as a teacher at Columbus.

Galland’s introductory letter to Davis School was already posted on the school’s website.  “For fifteen years, I have hoped to become a principal within our vibrant, diverse city, and I am grateful today for the chance to join and work alongside a school community that has partnered for so long to maintain Davis School at such a high level. I promise to earn your faith and trust, each day, in small and large ways, as we collaborate to sustain and build an even more responsive, high-performing, and caring school.”

Joanna Genovese is the new leader of Barnard Early Childhood Center, which enrolls children pre-k to second-grade.  She replaces Patricia Lambert, who retired after leading the school since 2002.  Genovese most recently was the principal of Hulbutt Elementary School in Weston, Conn.  Previously, she was the assistant principal at Driscoll School in Wilton, Conn.

Reginald Richardson joins New Rochelle High School as principal after Donald Conetta retired from the position this year.  Conetta  was leader of the high school since 2005.  Richardson will leave his job as principal of the Performing Arts and Technology High School in Brooklyn to come to New Rochelle.

Genovese, an adjunct professor at the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, Conn., received her bachelor's degree in philosophy from Southern Connecticut State University and her master's degree in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport.

Richardson has a bachelor's degree in political science from Hunter College, a law degree from Howard University School of Law and his master's degree in education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education.  He expects to receive his master's of science degree in education from Baruch College in January.

Galland has an undergraduate degree from Tufts University and a master's of education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. His wife is an elementary teacher at Jefferson School.

The educators were appointed by the school board last month.
