Jim Aylesworth, a highly renowned children’s author who spent 25 years in the classroom, has accepted an invitation from his former first grade student, new Schools Superintendent Brian Osborne, to bring his “distinctive mix of sound, rhythm and rhyme” to the district.
Beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 1, the former teacher will visit each of the district’s seven elementary schools, beginning at Jefferson Elementary. Osborne said that Aylesworth was a huge influence on him as a youth.
“Mr. Aylesworth is the best teacher I ever had,” he said. “He taught me how to read; but more importantly, he taught me, and the whole class, to love reading. I’m overjoyed to share my favorite teacher with our district’s more than 5,000 elementary students.”
