New Rochelle Schools Plan Biliteracy Program Meetings

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The City School District of New Rochelle is introducing the state Seal of Biliteracy program through two meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.

All New Rochelle parents are invited to a meeting 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday to hear how their children can be recognized upon high school graduation for mastering more than one language. The meeting will be held in the House IV cafeteria at New Rochelle High School, 265 Clove Road. 

A presentation will be given by Elena Dilion, district supervisor of English language learners and dual language programs; Trinity Elementary School Principal Anthony DiCarlo; and Maggie Albers, William B. Ward Elementary School Spanish teacher/dual language program coordinator.

In addition to the meeting on Wednesday, Angelica Infante-Green, the state Education Department associate commissioner, Office of Bilingual Education and Foreign Language Studies, will make a special visit to world language programs in action at New Rochelle schools on Thursday from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. 

Below is the rundown for Infante-Green's visit: 

  • Visit to Spanish Foreign Language in Elementary Grades Program: Bilingual Kindergarten and Dual Language classes, grades one-five at William B. Ward Elementary School at 9 a.m. 
  • Visit to Spanish bilingual kindergarten and dual language classes, grades one-five at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Elementary School, 180 Pelham Road.
  • Visit to Spanish bilingual kindergarten and grade one classes; Spanish dual language classes, grades one-five; and Italian dual language classes, grades three-five at 12:30 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary School at 131 Weyman Ave.
