They were to be available Monday and for the duration of the week for anyone who feels the need to talk to someone. Administrators, psychologists, social workers, counselors and teachers will all be on hand, according to Paul Costiglio, schools spokesperson.
Each school in the district will also evaluate its protocols this week with safety committees, and safety plans will be reviewed to ensure that there are specific steps to take in crisis situations.
“We are committed to the ongoing evaluation of our district safety policies and will work to continue improving and refining these measures to maintain a high level of safety and security for our students and staff,” Costiglio said.
Costiglio added that it is important for the community and the district to come together in the wake of the Newtown shooting for a review of New Rochelle's plans.
“Each school will revisit existing precautions and safety plans to ensure they are current,” he said. “During this very difficult time, it is important for all of us to support one another as we deal with the aftermath of this tragedy and the potential effect on our students.”
