On Tuesday, the Board of Education unanimously approved Jeffrey White, who has served as a fiscal administrator for the state Education Department, as the New Rochelle School District’s new assistant superintendent of Business and Administration.

White, whose resume includes stops all over New York, was most recently in a similar position with the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in Orange County, where he is responsible for a $156 million budget for approximately 7,500 students.

He will be tasked with a slightly larger budget at New Rochelle. This year, the district adopted a $245.45 million spending plan for the schools’ approximately 10,000 students.

“I am enthusiastic about this work and the opportunity to make a difference in New Rochelle,” White said. “I will focus immediately on crafting a well-honed 2015 school district budget and look forward to collaborating with the talented district management team and New Rochelle community.”

Prior to his time in Orange County, White was the fiscal administrator for the New York State Education Department before he was appointed by the Commissioner of Education to oversee the state’s first takeover of a school district.

First year Schools Superintendent Brian Osborne said that White’s vast resume both in business and education will be a boon for a school district under new leadership.

“White is effective in leading all business operational areas we have in our schools: an extensive transportation system, professionally managed food services, a proactive facilities department, well-coordinated security team and an innovative technology division,” he said. “We will benefit from his proven financial and administrative leadership.”

Board of Education President Lianne Merchant echoed the sentiments of the superintendent, noting that the diversity of White’s professional history will benefit students and staff alike.

“White brings exactly the kind of excellent experience and background we need in our district,” she noted. “We are truly fortunate to have such a well qualified individual joining our New Rochelle schools.”
