NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Chrisanne Petrone was unanimously chosen Monday to serve a second consecutive year as president of the New Rochelle Board of Education, and board member Deirdre Polow was elected as the new vice president.
Polow was chosen to take over for board member Jeffrey Hastie in a 5-2 vote.
The board holds an annual meeting to organize itself after the school elections to decide who will serve as president and vice president for the upcoming school year. The board also votes on other matters necessary for the year.
Petrone said she could not have served her first year or continue to guide the board in the future without the support of her colleagues on the board.
“We still have a lot more to do, and I’m committed to continue us on that path,” she said.
Polow said she will focus on issues that matter most to everyone involved with the district.
“I will continue the district’s mission and board’s goals to the very best of my ability,” she said.
The board next meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 in a Committee of the Whole session in the Carew Room at New Rochelle City Hall. It will then move into regular legislative session at 8 p.m. in the board meeting room.
The board will not meet for a second time in July because of a decision to wait until August to accommodate those who have prior commitments.
