Dear New Rochelle Community:
We sincerely thank you for your involvement in our budget process this year and for voting to support the 2015-16 City School District of New Rochelle budget, which passed by a decisive margin Tuesday. Unofficial budget results show 69 percent of voters (1,646) voting yes and 31 percent (735) voting no.
We, on the Board of Education, are thrilled to partner with our superintendent and educators throughout the district to help implement the priorities in this fiscally sound budget. The budget plan strikes just the right balance between student needs and taxpayer interests as we pursue a vision and shared mission with our community, parents, staff and students.
The district’s Strategic Roadmap contains a statement about our overarching goal to collaborate with you in a way that results in providing access to a high-quality and challenging education for every child in a safe, nurturing environment that embraces our rich diversity and drives our success.
Just one of many examples showcasing fulfillment of this mission was superbly demonstrated as I walked onto the Metro-North train platform Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. and heard the beautiful, soulful voices of our PAVE students singing under the direction of Mr. James. This inspirational, impromptu concert was presented with the support of both the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence and the New Rochelle Council on the Arts.
This collaborative promotion of New Rochelle High School’s student musicians and their upcoming June 3 performance at Carnegie Hall perfectly illustrated our community’s belief in children as its most valued asset and why an investment in our school system is the key to a viable, thriving economy in our city. As we embark upon a bold, innovative plan for the future, we are committed to providing high-quality academic programs, maintaining favorable class size and ensuring the safety and security of children in our schools.
Personally, I am honored to serve you on the Board of Education and look forward to more shared work that centers on continuously improving the educational opportunities we provide.
