New Rochelle School Board Candidate: Chrisanne Petrone

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Daily New Rochelle will run candidate profiles on the two candidates running for two uncontested seats on the nine-member New Rochelle Board of Education and the seven-member New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees before the May 15 election. Each candidate was asked the same questions.

Incumbents are running unopposed for all four seats. Chrisanne Petrone and David Lacher are running for the two school board seats.

Haina Just-Michael and Bernardo Nunez are running for the two library board seats. Nunez was appointed midterm to fill a vacancy.

What is your background?

I am originally from Bronx, N.Y. and have lived in New Rochelle for over 22 years with my husband and two sons. My children are the third generation that have grown up in New Rochelle, and we are proud to be part of this city. I am currently employed as an Outreach Coordinator at the Hudson Valley Special Education Parent Center, and am a former Controller/Accountant/Auditor. I have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

What do you think of the current state of the New Rochelle School District?

I think our school district is one of the finest in Westchester. Are we perfect, no, however, we will continue to strive to make it better. I have the utmost respect for my colleagues on the Board of Education. They are equally dedicated to all of the children of New Rochelle. While we all bring our own individual experiences and expertise to the table, together we strive for the best for the children of New Rochelle.

Why do you want to be re-elected to the New Rochelle Board of Education?

I would like to be re-elected to have the opportunity to continue to serve the children of our great city and to see the programs and other positive changes that began in my first term on the board come to fruition.

Why do you enjoy serving on the board?

What is most enjoyable about being on the board is being able to work with the children and families in our district and to know that we can make a difference. I am given the opportunity each and every day to teach my own children the importance of giving back to their community.

What do you plan to do if re-elected?

If re-elected, I plan to work along with our administration to turn around programs that aren't working to ones that will best serve our students so that each and every one of them will continue to have a quality and successful educational experience here in New Rochelle, and to continue to promote increased involvement of the community in the school district.
