On Wednesday, New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Brian Osborne announced that Davis Elementary Principal Michael Galland would assume the same position at Columbus following Tuesday’s annual Board of Education Organizational meeting.

Galland has been with the New Rochelle School District for nearly two decades, where he served as an assistant principal at Columbus for 10 years and led the math and technology departments at Isaac E. Young Middle School from 2003 to 2011. His career began as a third and fourth grade teacher at Columbus in 1998.

“I have been honored to work at Davis, among so many fully devoted teachers and families,” he said. “I am now grateful for the opportunity to rejoin an exceptional and vibrant Columbus school community.”

According to district officials, Galland is credited with leading the Davis Elementary School staff in adopting “new and innovative reading and writing workshop curricula.” Interviews with a dozen candidates seeking to replace him as principal at Davis Elementary will begin next month.

“Mr. Galland is an exceptional leader in our schools,” Osborne said when announcing the appointment. “His proven track record of success makes him ideally suited for this position at this time. Every Columbus student, teacher and family will benefit from his leadership.”
