New Rochelle Parents Can Learn About Bilingualism Honors For Students

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Current and future parents in the New Rochelle School District are invited to a meeting on Wednesday to hear how their children can receive the New York State Seal of Biliteracy.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the House IV Cafeteria in New Rochelle High School.

The presenters include Elena Dilion, district supervisor of English Language Learners and Dual Language Programs; Anthony DiCarlo, principal of Trinity Elementary School; and Maggie Albers, Spanish teacher and Dual Language Program coordinator at William B. Ward Elementary School.

Parents who come can learn the following aspects of the program:

  • Why the state has decided to reward high school graduates who attain a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English;
  • What the criteria for awarding the NYS Seal of Biliteracy will be;
  • What to do to be on track towards receiving the State Seal of Biliteracy.
