New Rochelle Middle Schoolers 'Stomp' Out Bullying

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - With October representing National Bullying Prevention Month, several New Rochelle Middle School students got proactive to stomp bullying from their school district.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and students at both Albert Leonard and Isaac E. Young middle schools wore blue shirts and learned how to combat bullying at assemblies Thursday in New Rochelle.

On Thursday, Albert Leonard and Isaac E. Young Middle School held assemblies and celebrated STOMP Out Bullying’s Blue Shirt Day World Day of Bullying Prevention, a national campaignn designed on reducing and preventing bullying, cyberbullying, sexting and other digital abuse.

Students from both schools congregated in their auditoriums to learn about bullying and various ways to combat it. Albert Leonard Principal John Barnes rallied his students, while Albert Leonard welcomed singer and anti-bullying ambassador Shacara Atiya to address students, who spoke about being bullied as a senior in high school.

“The whole day is dedicated to fighting bullying,” Isaac E. Young Assistant Principal Tawanda Robinson said. “Content teachers are focusing class time on anti-bullying messages.”
