Dear parents:

Happy New Year! As we launch into 2015, it seems like a great time to reflect on what we’ve accomplished so far as a learning community and plans we have for an exciting, bright future.

Right before winter recess, many of our high school students received fantastic news. Numerous seniors were accepted Early Decision or Early Action to their first choice colleges. These institutions are among some of the most competitive schools in the country, including Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, University of Notre Dame, University of Pennsylvania, The College of William and Mary, and Yale University.

These acceptances reflect not only the hard work and dedication of each student, but also the excellent work of our outstanding professionals and the high quality education our students receive throughout their academic careers. Congratulations, all!

This school year has already proven to be a period of growth and important transition. I am delighted to be your new superintendent, and impressed with the professionalism of our committed and caring staff.

In my brief time here, we have brought on board Mr. Arturo Rivera, our new director of facilities, and Mr. Jeffrey White, our assistant superintendent for Business and Administration. These critical hires were initiated after vigorous search and vetting processes. I am deeply gratified that in the short time Mr. Rivera has been with us, he has begun to implement several sweeping and vital changes.

Under his direction, the department is more responsive and stands to become far more cost-effective. I expect similar progress in the positive impact Mr. White will provide as he begins work today. I am excited to have these exceptional leaders serving in New Rochelle.

With much of the leadership team in place and with the help of our wonderful faculty and staff, we are now ready to make strides in tackling our school district budget for 2015-2016. We must ensure the budget reflects our short-term goals and long-term priorities.

Please mark your calendar for the first School Budget Community Input Forum, scheduled for Jan. 15. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the New Rochelle High School library.

Your input is needed and we encourage you to participate in these discussions.

Here’s to a terrific year ahead, and thank you for partnering with us in the education of your children.

Sincerely,

Brian G. Osborne

Superintendent of Schools
