NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A new scholarship will help some college-bound New Rochelle residents pay for classes at the College of New Rochelle.

The annual scholarship, called the “New Rochelle Resident Award,” honors New Rochelle’s 325th anniversary and will pay up to $9,000 for a full-time studen enrolled in the College’s School of Arts and Sciences or School of Nursing.

Students must be nominated by their principal or guidance counselor. Selected students can renew the scholarship each year as long as they remain enrolled in classes.

College of New Rochelle president Judith Huntington, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, and 325th Anniversary Chairwoman Marianne Sussman announced the scholarship Thursday during a press conference in the school’s Castle Gallery.

Huntington said the scholarship is crucial to the future of the city.

“We view this special award as an investment in the future of the city of New Rochelle and in its residents as we continue to offer the high quality, affordable education for which we are known,” she said.
